How skin ages

Skin ages according to the same rules that apply to all the other organs.

Other than the effects of age, your skin is also subjected to damaging effects of the environment such as excess sun (ultraviolet rays), attacks of cold weather, smoking, and pollution that are all so many aggressions that add to the natural process of ageing. And so, on certain areas like the face, neck, the backs of the hands, the forearms, ageing is accelerated.

Between 25 and 45/50 years

The skin becomes progressively thinner, more fragile, has less glow. Expression lines (around the eye and corners of the mouth) appear and increase.

After 45/50 years
Wrinkles become deeper and form deep lines, skin loses its firmness, the oval of the face is less regular, the neck is less toned, the complexion becomes dull.

Ageing, a scientific explanation

The epidermis (uppermost layer of your skin) is made up mostly (80%) of keratinocytes.

These cells play an essential role; it is their metabolic activity that will be responsible for the quality and the youthfulness of your skin. They are the ones that guarantee daily epidermal renewal, that takes place on average every 21 days.

In order to do this, new cells are born and move from the base of the epidermis to the surface.
Unfortunately, with time, keratinocytes lose their metabolic capacity and their ability to divide. They “run out of steam” and “lose their ability to move quickly” – epidermal renewal takes more time.

Anti-ageing dermo-cosmetic care products

  • Retinoids, derived from vitamin A
By physiologically changing into active vitamin A according to the needs of the skin, retinaldehyde ® works in depth to boost cells’ metabolism and on the surface to improve the skin’s complexion.
  • Hyaluronic acid
A major component of the skin that is made by dermal and epidermal cells, its synthesis decreases with age.
Other than its essential support role, it guarantees the skin’s suppleness and elasticity and also acts to moisturize it.
Today there exist dermo-cosmetic skin care products that can make up for this lack and increase the concentration of hyaluronic acid in the skin.
