What is Chicken Pox?

Chicken pox is an acute, infectious, viral disease, which mainly affects children. It causes a rash and intensely itchy blisters to appear first on the trunk, face and scalp and then on the arms and legs. These usually dry up in about 14 days and there is generally no scarring. To best avoid scarring, keep area hydrated and avoid scratching or picking.

Adults may develop chicken pox if they did not suffer from it during childhood. In adults, the disease is more serious with symptoms including headaches, vomiting and a high temperature.

What can you do about chicken pox?

To prevent secondary infection and scarring, keep fingernails short and clean, and try to avoid scratching. Application of an antiseptic preparation may also help prevent secondary infection due to scratching, but if a secondary infection does occur, antibiotics may be required.

As with all skin irritations, avoid using soap, which can remove the skin’s natural protection. Instead, use a gentle, soap-free cleanser and pat skin dry after bathing to avoid abrasion.

SOOV Cream

Ideal for cuts and grazes, SOOV Cream relieves pain and contains antiseptics to prevent infection. The soft cream base also makes it easy to apply to tender and sore skin.
