CALVASC (amlodipine) is a calcium channel blocker. It inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into cardiac and smooth muscle. The mechanism of the antihypertensive action of amlodipine is due to a direct relaxant effect on vascular smooth muscle.

CALVASC is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure and angina. Amlodipine is the most prescribed antihypertensive worldwide and is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) as first line therapy for hypertensive patients 55 years and older.
