What is nappy rash?
Nappy rash is a type of contact dermatitis that affects infants. It usually looks red and inflamed.
Rashes can become infected with candida. In this case, small white pustules may appear around the edges of the rash.
What can you do about nappy rash?
A topical soothing treatment needs to be applied, or if candida is present, a topical anti-fungal treatment should be used.
Change nappies immediately after they become wet or soiled to avoid aggravating the condition. Nappies should also be rinsed well to remove any detergent or antiseptic residues or use disposable nappies.
Clean the affected area thoroughly at each nappy change and avoid using soap. Emollient barrier treatments may help prevent the condition occurring.
