Rosacea & Red Sensitive Skin

Facial redness

Skin that reddens is characterized by a hyperactivity of blood vessels in the skin.
They react very quickly to changes in temperature, during certain meals... by intermittent redness (flushes), often unpleasant or bothersome, and over time by permanent redness (erythrosis), localized or more generalized.
This redness can be accompanied by the dilation of the vessels (telangiectasy) or by the appearance of spots (rosacea). In all cases, pay particular attention to this often sensitive vasoreactive skin, as much for prevention as for treatment.

Redness, a question of degree...

Intermittent redness: flushes

A “flush” is when your cheeks suddenly become very red.
Most often, it is a reaction of the skin to normal situations such as: an exam for a student, a job interview, a moving conversation or a conflict.
Flushes are also linked to sudden changes in temperature, and often appear if you drink alcoholic beverages, or eat certain foods (spices, mustard...).

Permanent redness: erythrosis

During a flush, the blood vessels in the face dilate rapidly, then return to normal, but over time, the redness becomes permanent, especially on the cheeks – that is what we call erythrosis.

Dilated blood vessels: rosacea

On top of the erythrosis, some blood vessels are more dilated than others and are visible to the naked eye. These little red blood vessels, or telangiectasies, are the early stages of rosacea.

Spots: rosacea

Rosacea was formerly called “acne rosacea” because in addition to redness, spots appear, similar to that of adolescent acne. Red spots (papules) and white spots (pustules) flare-up on a background of erythrorosacea.
