Douglas was founded in 1967 by West Auckland chemist Sir Graeme Douglas. He dispensed prescription medicines from his pharmacy in Te Atatū, until seeing a need for a cough syrup amongst his own customers and formulating a product he called Kofsin.
In 1980 he turned his hand to manufacturing and by the 1990s he was successfully researching and developing his own products for the domestic and international markets.
Today, Douglas is New Zealand’s largest family-owned healthcare company. We employ 500 people and export to 50 countries around the world.
